Lasting Powers of Attorney
At SP Law Solicitors incorporating Martin Adams & McColl, we have expertise in drafting Lasting Powers of Attorney, enabling you to appoint someone to act on your behalf in relation to your financial affairs and personal welfare decisions.
It is vital to have such a document in place if you feel that there is a risk that you may lose mental capacity or if you feel that you are no longer able to cope with dealing with your affairs yourself. There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney, which are as follows:
- Property and Financial Affairs. This allows you to appoint someone to deal with your financial affairs, such as paying bills, writing cheques and managing your accounts. This LPA does not mean that you would lose control over your affairs and you can provide your Attorneys with guidance and restrictions. You would still be able to deal with matters yourself for as long as you feel able to do so.
- Health and Personal Welfare. This allows you to appoint someone to make decisions about your health and welfare should you lose the mental capacity to make such decisions yourself. You can also give your Attorneys the authority to make decisions about giving or refusing consent to life-sustaining treatment on your behalf.
At SP Law, we can prepare these LPA’s on your behalf and register the same with the Office of Public Guardian. We provide these services on a fixed fee basis starting from £350.00 plus VAT for a single LPA. If you require two LPAs, then our fees start from £650.00 plus VAT.
